You may be familiar with the benefits of Direct Primary Care, but you probably don’t know that Congress already has it! The Office of the Attending Physician was founded in 1928 and now provides medical care for Members of Congress, all for the low fee of $503 a year. Their capabilities include primary care, x-rays, lab work, and physical therapy. These services are provided by four Navy doctors and a 12 person staff of nurses, technicians and a pharmacist.
To put this in perspective, a “normal” doctor that takes insurance has about 2,000 patients. A Direct Primary Care doctor typically has no more than 500. Congress’ doctors are responsible for fewer than 200 patients, and they have more support staff.
